Dharamshala Mayor Election, In the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation in Himachal Pradesh, there are a total of 17 wards. The position of Mayor is reserved for women, while the Deputy Mayor’s position is for men. Currently, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds the majority in that place.

The election for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation in Himachal Pradesh has gained momentum. The term of the current Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation, which lasts for two and a half years, is ending on October 12th.

Following this, on October 13th, new Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections will be held. According to the proposal brought by the Congress government, all sections are getting an equal opportunity for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor positions in the municipal corporation.

There are a total of 17 wards in the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation. The Mayor’s position is reserved for women, while the Deputy Mayor’s position is for men. Currently, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds the majority, and Onkar Nehria is the Mayor, while Sarvachand is the Deputy Mayor.

The BJP has 10 councilors, and the Congress has seven councilors. Among these, there are seven female councilors from the BJP and five female councilors from Congress. There are three male councilors from the BJP and two male councilors from Congress.

Here are the key faces from the Congress and BJP:

  • Congress: Rajni Vyas, Savita Karki, and Neenu Sharma.
  • BJP: Tejendra Kaur, Santosh Sharma, Rekha Devi, Monica Pathania, and one more face.
  • In addition to this, for the Deputy Mayor’s position:
  • BJP: Onkar Nehria, Anuj Kumar, and Sarvachand Galotiya.
  • Congress: Anurag Kumar and Devendra Jaggi.

There is concern about cross-voting in the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections. Sarvachand, who won as an independent candidate from Ward 16 and later joined the BJP, became the Deputy Mayor. This time, his name will be on the ballot, but if the BJP changes its candidate’s name, Sarvachand may also change sides.

It is noteworthy that Onkar Nehria was elected unopposed as the Mayor of the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation previously, while Sarvachand was elected Deputy Mayor.
