Miss Universe Pakistan 2023, Erica Robin’s participation in the Miss Universe Pakistan beauty pageant has sparked significant controversy, generating intense debate, particularly among conservative factions within the country. Critics argue that her presence in the competition was made without the nation’s collective approval, raising concerns about the decision made by the event organizers.
This contentious situation underscores the divergent perspectives within Pakistan regarding beauty pageants and their contestants, highlighting the need for a more inclusive and transparent approach in selecting participants for such events. But at the same time, she is also getting a lot of backlash from the critique from Pakistan itself as they are saying that it’s against Pakistan’s norms.
Who is Erica Robin?
Erica Robin is a 25 years old, fashion model born in Karachi, Pakistan. She was known for her skills and beauty in the fashion industry. She was selected as the Miss Universe Pakistan in the competition held in Maldives which was organized by the Dubai-based Yugen Group. She was competing against Hira Inam (24), Jessica Wilson (28), Malika Alvi (19), and Sabrina Wasim (26) and emerged victorious.
Why is Erica Robin Receiving so much Backlash?
Conservatives of Pakistan don’t seem to be liking this. They are constantly criticising her and the main reason for the backlash is that beauty pageants are rare in Pakistan. Conservatives’ point is that she was born and lived in a country that is not so open about women being a part of such competitions.
But on the other hand, Erica Robin mentions that she is very happy and honored to represent Pakistan. She also thinks that this backlash is majorly coming from the event of parading in a swimsuit in a room full of men.
With that, during her selection process, she called Pakistan a backward nation when asked. She has a lot of aspirations to achieve so always tried to go beyond her boundaries.
Apart from that she is getting a lot of support from actors, models, and writers around the world. Miss Robin mentioned that she is honored and humbled to be the first ever Miss Universe Pakistan and she wanted to highlight the beauty of Pakistan.
She says that We have a beautiful culture that the media is ignoring, Pakistani people are very kind, kind, and hospitable. She also requested people to visit the country and try the most sumptuous Pakistani cuisines and explore the enchanting nature, snow-capped mountains, greeneries, and our progressive landscapes.”
She also says that she will never do anything that will harm the reputation of Pakistan.
